Our football season would not be complete without our signature social events:
End of season tour - Wellington
Once the ASFA season is wrapped up, we take most of the playing staff, plus committee members and sponsors down to Wellington for a long weekend of festivities and football in mid October. Everyone flies down and checks in on Friday lunch time at our usual haunt, The Cambridge and begins the ‘socialising’ for the day. Saturday brings a trip to the Hutt Valley where we compete on two fronts for bragging rights and trophies against an Upper Hutt team and another team from Palmerston North. Socialising continues upon the final whistle of each team’s respective game. Sundays are set aside for soul searching, self-reflection, cooked breakfasts and the journey home to your sofa or bed.
Mid season social - Quiz
We like to bring players, friends and family together to mingle and compete in a quiz like no other. Trivia, games, challenges and forfeits all make for a great social evening where teams who don’t have a great mind for trivia can still win. Hosted at our club rooms, beer is cheap and the food is plentiful. It’s a big night in the Zamantix calendar!
End of season social - Prize giving
Aside of the ASFA’s event, we host our own in-house awards night a week or so later. Here we acknowledge team and individual performances and achievements throughout the latest season, amongst friends and family. Trophies and awards range from your ‘typical’ Team of the Season and Golden Boot to The Pint of Z, where we award a commemorative challis (with free top-ups all night) for having the best attitude or furthering the club in off-field endeavours.
...but wait, there is more:
Most of our teams like to keep fit by participating in summer soccer leagues, but this 7-a-side competition stands out. We aim to take a few teams over on the ferry (along with a couple of gazebos and chilly-bins of refreshments) to make a real day of playing football, all against the idyllic Waiheke Island backdrop.
Inter-club 7-a-side Competition
Amongst our pre-season friendlies this day stands out – all our players and trialists pull names out of a hat to mix up the teams in our own in-house 7-a-side tournament. Nearly as important is the BBQ and beers that follow. A great day for players returning after a summer off and to introduce new guys to the fold.
